"Empowering Nepal’s Women Through Self-Sufficiency Providing Education for Children Without Access to Schooling"

Our Story

The Mother and Children Art Foundation (MCAF), established in 2004, is a non-profit organization committed to uplifting the lives of underprivileged women and children in Nepal through education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.

MCAF began its journey by offering traditional Thangka painting training to women, aiming to empower them with culturally rooted professional skills. Since those early days, the foundation has significantly expanded its reach and impact, thanks to the unwavering support of well-wishers, generous donors, and collaborative partner organizations. Today, MCAF continues to evolve as a dynamic force for positive change, fostering dignity, self-reliance, and sustainable development in the communities it serves.

MCAF operates a central Art Studio and Gallery in Kathmandu, along with multiple training centers across various regions of Nepal. Through these platforms, we continue to conduct a wide range of social and community service initiatives aimed at supporting schools and empowering local communities.

As part of our commitment to accessible education, we established Nepalaya English Public School in the outskirts of Kathmandu. This institution is dedicated to providing quality education to children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, offering them a nurturing environment and a pathway toward a brighter future.

Our Vision

In many villages across Nepal, women are primarily engaged in household responsibilities and often face significant limitations in owning property or participating in family decision-making processes.

Deep-rooted social norms and traditional values continue to perpetuate gender-based discrimination, preventing women from achieving equality with men. A lack of awareness, access to education, and vocational skills remain key barriers to their empowerment and active participation in society.

Similarly, a large portion of the population in Nepal continues to live below the poverty line, unable to afford private education for their children. While there are a few government schools available, they are limited in number and often lack the quality necessary to provide a strong educational foundation. These schools are insufficient to meet the educational needs of all children.

MCAF recognizes these challenges as critical barriers to improving the standard of living in rural communities and fostering national development. We believe that the most effective path forward lies in raising awareness, providing access to quality education, and offering vocational training to equip individuals with practical, income-generating skills.

Our Mission

MCAF is dedicated to empowering women by offering multi-skill training programs and creating platforms that allow them to explore their potential and gain real-life experience to overcome challenges and succeed independently.

In addition, we provide shelter and educational opportunities for child laborers, children with disabilities, orphans, street children, and those from economically marginalized families. Our aim is to ensure that every child—regardless of their background—has the chance to receive a quality education and a safe environment in which to grow and thrive.

MCAF is committed to enhancing the quality of government community schools by improving infrastructure, providing essential educational resources, and offering training programs for teachers and staff.

We also support rural communities lacking access to basic healthcare by organizing free health camps, conducting health awareness programs, and offering hygiene and first aid training. These initiatives aim to fill critical gaps in areas where health posts or hospitals are not available.
