Kakani Brighter Secondary School is located in Kakani Rural Municipality, Ward No. 5, Nuwakot, Nepal. Established in 2006 (2062 B.S.), the school aims to provide free education to children in the wider Kakani village, where no academic institutions existed at that time. The community recognized the urgent need for education, believing that by educating their children, they could help them escape the cycle of poverty and enable them to support their
families and community in various ways. Today, the school provides free education from kindergarten through secondary level (up to grade 10), serving over 360 students with a dedicated team of 20 teachers.
Due to the absence of higher secondary classes (grades 11 and 12) at the school, very few students continue their education after completing grade 10. The nearest high school is located 6 km away in the nearest town, which poses a significant barrier. As a result, many students either drop out of school to work on family farms or seek employment in nearby cities. This has created a serious challenge for local education. To address this issue, the school plans to expand its offerings to include grades 11 and 12, effectively becoming a complete high school to better serve the community’s needs. However, the current school building is inadequate to accommodate the existing student population, highlighting the urgent need for new classroom construction.
1) To construct a new classroom building with eight rooms in the near future, along with additional buildings for vocational education in the long term.
2) To place a strong emphasis on vocational education.
3) To establish the school as a model educational institution for the region.
To support this master plan of the school, (MCAF) has initiated the construction of a new school building with the support of Wildland Trekking Company, Backpacker Magazine from USA, our friends, supporters and donors.
We aim to complete the project latest by August 31, 2026.

The new classroom building, set to be constructed soon, will accommodate at least 180 additional students. Two of the classrooms will be designated for grades 11 and 12, while the remaining rooms will be used for technical classes or to manage the overflow of current students. If this project is successful, the school will begin offering grades 11 and 12 immediately after the new building is completed. They have already received government approval for this upgrade, contingent upon their ability to manage classrooms and provide the necessary educational resources.
We would like to provide you with an update on the progress of the Kakani School building construction. Apologies for the delay in sharing this information.

The project is progressing, albeit gradually, due to several challenges. The foundation work, in particular, has taken longer than expected. We encountered difficulties breaking through large layers of rock along the wall side, which delayed the foundation laying process. Additionally, the poor road conditions have made it challenging to transport construction materials, and we have faced a shortage of workers.
That said, we are making good progress, and both the local government engineers and the community are pleased with the advancements so far.
In the next 25 days, we plan to complete all the pillars and the shear wall on the backside of the building. We aim to complete the first floor’s structure by the end of May 2025. To meet this timeline, we require an additional US$ 20,000 in funding.
To date, we have successfully raised US$ 26,500 for the project.
Thank you all for your generous support, and please feel free to reach out if you need any further information.
The project is moving forward steadily. In line with our goal to complete the first-story slab structure by the end of May 2025, I’m happy to report that we achieved this milestone within the planned timeframe.
We successfully completed the concreting of the first-story slab on April 27. Since then, work has continued without interruption, including the erection of pillars and preparation of the framework for the second-story slab.
However, funding has been a significant challenge. Over the past four months, we have received only US$3,400, which has been far from sufficient to sustain the pace of construction.
Despite the financial shortfall, it is essential that we complete the pillars and second slab of the second story by the end of May. The contractor must finish the main structure and move his equipment including tools, frames, and the mixing machine to another project site before the monsoon begins. If the structural work is not completed this month, and we are forced to bring back all equipment and materials after the monsoon, it will lead to additional costs amounting to thousands dollars.
Given these circumstances, completing the construction now will benefit the school community and be far more cost-effective. With this in mind, all stakeholders: Mother and Children Art Foundation, Kakani Brighter Secondary School, The Contractor, and The Local Government have jointly agreed on a plan to continue the work and complete the main structural components (pillars and slab) of the second story before the monsoon starts. To make this possible, we have secured a loan of around US$15,000 to cover labor and transportation costs, and we have procured necessary construction materials on credit. This approach will allow us to complete the second-story slab by the end of this month.
We are now in urgent need of financial support to meet the ongoing costs of the project. Please help spread the word and support us in any way you can to help complete this project. Any contribution, big or small, will be deeply appreciated.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
Warm Regards,
We would like to share an update on our recent progress with the Kakani School Building Project.
On June 9th, we successfully completed the concreting of the second slab, as per our commitment.
Afterward, work was temporarily halted for the monsoon season and scheduled to resume construction in mid-September to complete the remaining phases.
We believe the project is progressing well and remains in line with our original plan and commitment. We are deeply grateful to all the donors and supporters who have helped make this possible.
As you know, our biggest challenge now is securing adequate funding to complete the project. Currently, we have a loan of around USD 15,000 to cover labor and transportation costs, and we’ve procured construction materials on credit. We’re hopeful that more people will join us to support and help complete this project on time.
Thank you very much,
If this project is successful, the school will begin offering grades 11 and 12 immediately after the new building is completed. They have already received government approval for this upgrade, contingent upon their ability to manage classrooms and provide the necessary educational resources. The estimated cost for constructing this new school building is NPR. 12,733,288.48 (USD 96,000.00), based on government budget standards. (Source: Total Cost Estimate of Civil Works).
To reach this substantial funding goal, we kindly request all our friends and supporters to help us complete this project as quickly as possible.
